Wardman Park Hotel, Washington, D.C.

APBnews.com timed its late-1998 launch to coincide with the joint annual conventions of both the American Society of Criminologists (ASC) and Criminal Justice Journalists (CJJ) in Washington, D.C. Lead by Hoag Levins, a team of five reporters provided coverage throughout the week. Published to the Web site the same day, that news allowed a broad audience of crime-and-justice professionals and buffs to keep up with happenings at a major national event they were unable to attend.

At the center of the ASC conference is a trade show that brings together more than 30 publishers of criminal justice books and dozens of other vendors of crime statistics and related services for criminologists.
