WHARTON ESHERICK MUSEUM
The Floors

Like other structural surfaces, the floors throughout the house were given special attention by Esherick. After receiving a truck full of scrap applewood and walnut from a local wood cutter, Esherick laid the pieces out and began working them into place -- like a large puzzle board -- for a kitchen floor (above, left). A completely different style of floor board design radiates from the bathoom entrance guarded by the figure, "Boredom" (above, right).
