Margate's historic wood and tin elephant really is. In 1976 it was officially recognized by the U.S. Park Service as a National Historic Landmark. Harron Park, the site on which it now sits along Margate's beach, is named in honor of Josephine L. Harron, President and Co-Founder of the Save Lucy Committee, Inc., for her 25 years of dedicated service, inspiration, and commitment to the restoration and preservation of the historical elephant building. |
